A little conversation

A conversation heard in the back seat of my car the other day.

Holden: "Look Riley, you lost an eyelash. Blow on it and make a wish."

Riley: (blowing on the eyelash) "God, take away my diabetes."

Holden: "You know what, little boy? I always wish for the same thing too. "

Riley: "But, why? You don't have diabetes."

(Sad and funny all at the same time.)

When I was in high school, my friend Julia (who I've mentioned a couple of times on my blog) moved to Oregon from Minnesota. It was a tradition there to always kiss your hand and touch the ceiling whenever you drive through a yellow light and then make a wish.

I've developed quite a bad habit of driving through yellow lights because everytime I do I wish for "a cure for diabetes."

My brother now hates driving with me.

(Oh, and apologies, that deleted comment was from me)

Ok, now Penny I am crying. Haven't had a chance to come to your site lately and reading this dialogue between Holden and Riley went straight from my heart to my tear ducts. I can just hear Riley saying that to Holden. Ah-h the innocence of children. I pray for Riley to be healed everyday too. Those two boys of yours are great, it is so rare to see a teenager who cares so much for his little brother as Holden does Riley these days. You are a great mother!
Love you,
Aunt Linda
