Opionions of the Cleo

Riley had an endo appointment yesterday. Everything was fine. She didn't make any changes to basals or carb coverage so I felt pretty good about that. His A1C is 7.3. (It was 7.8 in September). And, he has gained two pounds over the last 3 months.

Anyway, when she looked at Riley's old pump sites she recommended trying another set. She gave me a couple of Cleo sets. I got one out last night and played with it. I like that it has less adhesive on his skin. (We use insets now.) But, I'm worried that since it has less adhesive I might get pulled out more easily.

I would love to hear your opinion of the Cleo from those who have used it.

Fantastic A1c. You guys are doing a great job. Don't know about the Cleo. We use the Sure-T for Charlie's minimed pump, and as you know, it's a bloody mess. Curious about something. Do you find that the average on your meter matches the A1c result? Generally what is Riley's 30-day or 15-day average according to the meter?

I was just diagnosed with diabetes in June and I have only been on the pump since August. All I have used are the cleos so I don't have anything to really compare them to. I have only had 1 or 2 that didn't stick well to my skin and it was obvious as soon as I put it on. Each time it was just a small area and if I wiped a little IV prep over it then it will help seal it back to my skin. Other than that I have never had one fall off or come loose over the 3 days I wear them for and I usually have to peel them off on the last day. I had a hard time doing the shots and went too slow so I knew the cleo would be the best option for me since it does most of the work. I also think that as Riley gets older and you want to start teaching him to change his own sites that the cleo would be easier for him to do.

I hope this helped a little bit! Good Luck!! and I hope that you and your family have a wonderful Christmas!!

I only used one Cleo, right in the beginning. It didn't stick well, and I had no intention of using them since I wanted pink Insets (yes I am vain and wanted cute sets.) But I have seen the way Riley's sites look and I say go for it. It can't hurt to try to find a better solution.
Congrats on that A1c, I only wish mine looked like that at such a young age.

Great a1c! You guys are doing great and should be proud.

As for Cleos, I find they stuck WAY better than Insets and healed better for me. I felt they were less irritating.

I would use some skin prep, let it draw till it was "sticky" then put it in.

I did have problems with blockages though, so I often had to change them at 2 days instead of 3.

I've had some experience with the Cleo's and here is my quick run down.
Positives:
*Stick well, and have a little "tab" to grab hold of when it is time to pull them off.
*Smaller adhesive area
*Ability to change direction of the tubing. Not a big deal, but kind of handy to have.
*Easy insertion- one step, just push and go.
*The seperate tubing and set, plus no seperate insertor device (but you already have that with insets)
*It's purple. :-)
Negatives:
*The insertion speed in self controlled. I thought this would be a positive, but if I have one that hurts, I have to make myself keep pushing through the pain to finish the insertion.
*Blockages. More than 50% ended in blockages. They are the number one reason I don't use them any more. I pretty much never had a blockage during the day. I'd end up at 300+ quite a few mornings. It wasn't worth it.
I'd go ahead and give them a try. It's always worth trying something new.

Solid on the AC1C. I use Sure-Ts with the MM and they are easy to use (just like putting in a thumbtack, quick and easy)and very reliable, the short metal insert never clogs or pinches like I had on some of teflon ones. They work well!
